Group Communications:

Having all the members of a talkgroup on the same “channel” is group communications. Most services that cater to group communications are analog in nature, yet they still provide the ability for discrete members of the talkgroup to move off the main channel in order to have private conversations. With most of the fleet activity on the same talkgroup, those involved in supervision are able to monitor the fleet activity, and to influence decisions in the field as they occur, rather than losing time waiting for personal contact with a subordinate employee.

One to One Direct Connections:

A relatively recent concept of communications has emerged in the digital communications environment which is one-to-one two-way digital communication. This can be an effective mode of contact if the fleet is limited to a small handful of radios. In larger fleets, however, it eliminates managers or supervisors ability to monitor any of the company’s communications. The minute-to-minute ability to measure progress, and to assert management influence over the business is lost in a one-to-one scenario.

Wide-Area Dispatch:

In the traditional two-way radio environment, communications are supported by single site operations. Wide area coverage is usually accommodated by multiple, single site systems which are scanned by subscriber radios. This model is generally useable, but often the subscriber radios fall into fringe coverage areas, and contact is lost. Networking a system, as we have with TeamTalk, eliminates most of these instances.
